After our roller coaster December of goodbye drinks and parties in India we arrived in Edinburgh on 5th December - crossing the border as darkness was setting in (you'd never guess from our faces that it was a bit cold!)
Then today was my first day at work, and Fiona got a full day to look at apartments - she found one (way over our budget) that had her saying we should sell the house in Surrey and buy here straight away!
So far so good - the city is lovely, we have invites to go out on Wednesday and one day next week, work looks good and we are starting to work out where we'd like to live - a good start for expats in Edinburgh!
Arriving early evening in our apartment with our call full of suitcases (6 large suitcases, a box with my computer and several smaller bags) we were met by a very friendly and helpful guy from the apartments who helped lug all our bags up to the second floor where the apartment is - a bonus to find it had a second bedroom so we have somewhere to store stuff - and somewhere for friends to stay if anyone fancies visiting in the next month before we find a place to rent.
We spent Friday exploring Edinburgh to work out where we wanted to live, but got sidetracked in the shops and found it was pretty much dark by the time we were ready to explore - it does get dark early here.
Saturday we set off to visit letting agents - only to find that they only work Monday to Friday, so that gave us an excuse to explore instead - the beach at Portobello in the east, lovely Edinburgh stone houses and flats in the centre and houses further out. Then on Sunday we met a friend we'd met in London who lives in Edinburgh and got the insiders tour, ending up at the Scottish Museum of Modern Art with its welcoming sign over the front:
